Management

The Northern Velebit National Park is run by the public institution "Northern Velebit National Park", founded by the Croatian Government. Its main tasks are protection, conservation and promotion of the park's natural wealth, as well as all the activities involved. The Institution is a non-profit organization which utilises obtained revenues for improvement of the institution's main activities. The Institution is managed by a five-member council named by the minister in charge, while the Institution itself is run by the Head.
As a part of the implementation of the KEC project (Karst Ecosystem Conservation), the Park's Management plan is also being carried out. Management plan is the basic document used as a guideline in Park's activities.
Public institution is financed from the state budget, through the ministry in charge. The lesser part of the Institution's financing is carried out through the sale of souvenirs and tickets. For certain projects we found some environment-friendly sponsors.
The Management of the Park is situated in the Velebitian village of Krasno, inside the Nature Park Velebit. The branch office of the Park is placed in Senj.
There are nine employees employed in the Park at present - in the Head's office, Ranger service and Expert service. The Institution's work is based upon the yearly operating programmes published by the Management Council, according to the written approval of the Ministry and the State Institution for Environmental Protection.
Apart from the every-day activities like supervision and field work, we pay much attention to the informative materials for all the people who wish to visit the Park. The Park's role in informing the public about the values of the northern Velebit is also very important - that is why we organize numerous exhibitions, events, celebrations of some important dates regarding nature protection etc. A sound cooperation with the local community is one of the prerequisits for the smooth functioning of the Park.
