| Projects
In cooperation with various scientific institutions, individuals and sponsors, the Northern Velebit National Park Public Institution is conducting some fiftheen projects at the moment. The goal of these projects is to broaden general knowledge on the Park's natural values, which is essential for its future managing. The educational and promotional projects are intended for visitors and wider public, and their goal is to educate people about the Park and widen public consciousness about the multiple values of this area. Regarding the time when these projects started, a part of them is still being carried out. On these pages you will find all the information about these projects.
Scientific and expertal projects
- Outer karst, glacial and periglacial forms on the area of the Northern Velebit National Park (Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb).
- Hidrogeological surveys on Štirovača locality (Institute for Geological Surveys).
- Inventarization of speleological objects in the Northern Velebit National Park, technical support to the "Crikvena 2003" expedition (Mountaineers' Society of the Velebit University).
- Inventarization of speleological objects in the Northern Velebit National Park, technical support to the "Crikvena 2003" expedition (Mountaineers' Society Dubovac, Karlovac).
- Inventarization of the Park's fauna - 1st phase (Croatian Scientific Museum)
- Inventarization of funghi, ordo Agaricales and classis Gasteromycetes in the Northern Velebit National Park - 1st phase (Croatian Mycological Society).
- Inventarization of various plant, funghi and animal species in the Northern Velebit National Park (i.e. spiders, butterflies, coleopterans, funghi, bats, mammals, birds, plants... ). BIUS - Association of Biology Students
- Experimental post in a sub-alpine beech forest (Forestry Institute, Jastrebarsko).
- Inventarization of vegetation on the locations of Štirovača and Premužić's trail (PhD. J. Topić)
- Inventarization of cultural heritage in the Northern Velebit National Park (Town's Museum, Senj).
Promotion and education
- Renovation of the Velebit Botany Garden - In cooperation with the Botany Garden of the Botany Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, in 2002. we started the project of renovation of the Velebit Botany Garden. The project includes inventarization of the established and introduction of new plant species, horticultural works, plant labeling and promotional activities. The general sponsor of this project in the years of 2002. and 2003. was Zagrebačka bank d. d.
- Premužićeva - Interpretive Trail
The project of planning and manufacturing of the interpretive tables which will be installed throughout the Park's part of the Premužić's trail is at hand. The inauguration of the interpretive trail is expected in August 2005. The project is implemented with the aid of the Ministry of Sea, Tourism, Traffic and Development.
- Arranging of bycicle trails on the Senj town area
In cooperation with the Nature Park Velebit Public Institution, town of Senj, Tourist Community of Senj and Mountain Bycicle Club Senj and with support of the Forestry Management Senj, during summer 2004. more than 200 km of cycling trails will be arranged in the town's inland. This will greatly inhance tourist offer to numerous visitors who seek active relaxation.
- Little Green Workshop
In June 2004. we are starting the educational programme "Little Green Workshop", intended for elementary school pupils. There will be a small educational room in one of the Park's offices in Krasno, and the educational leaflets "Little Botanician" and "Little Meteorologist" will also be printed.
- General design of arrangement of the Štirovača area as a visitor's center (ARH Project, Zagreb)
We are planning to arrange the area of Štirovača as one of the main visiting posts in the Park. The interpretive trails will be designed, and visitors will have the possibility of preparing some simplier meals.
- Printing of the promotive materials
The Institution is regularly issuing promotive materials - leaflets, flyers and posters, which primary goal is to provide some basic information on the Park and its sights. The printing of promotive materials was supported by the Croatian Tourist Association. The electronical versions of these materials will soon be available for download here.
